Green Strategy / Thessaloniki

The city of Thessaloniki is not known for large parks. However, the
existing green areas, the gardens and the iconic streets contribute
significantly to its character and are an integral part of its social
and cultural life. The Strategy being developed for
urban climate and green infrastructure is based on
a vision, which aims to ensure healthy green, with diverse structure
and composition, able to contribute in the most effective way to mitigating
the effects of climate change. In developing this Strategy, the importance
of a holistic approach to the management of an invaluable
resource is recognised.
The main objective is to guide the transition to
a resilient, healthy and diversified green infrastructure, in order
to ensure future generations with urban green presence and vegetation
able to respond to climate change, new needs and contribute by supporting
health, sustainability and the well-being of the city and its residents.
